WOMEN WITH A MISSION ( MSA)
The Mission Sisters of Ajmer (MSA) is an indigenous Institute of Religious Sisters founded by Rt. Rev. Fortunatus Henri Caumont OFM. Cap., the first Bishop of Ajmer. The Institute was founded on 26th April 1911, on the Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel. The Sisters follow the Rule and Life of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Assisi.
The Institute of the Mission Sisters of Ajmer was founded with the aim of reaching out to women and young girls of Rajputana (Rajasthan) who were secluded and isolated from the main stream of the Society due to the traditions and social customs, mainly the ‘purdah system’.
The Charism of the Mission Sisters of Ajmer is ‘an intense participation in the Redeeming Mission of Christ’, through an intimate union with Him in Prayer, life in Community and Apostolic activity.
In response to the call of Christ the poor, the chaste and the obedient, the Sisters joyfully live the Evangelical Counsels of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience. The Sisters live a community life which is intensified and strengthened by an active participation in the daily Eucharistic celebration and the Prayer of the Church.
Imbibed with a Missionary zeal, the Sisters spread God’s message of love, compassion, justice and truth while working for the eradication of poverty, disease and ignorance in particular for women and girl children.
As followers of St. Francis, the Sisters depend on God’s providence in all their needs. A deep faith in the power of God sustains them in joy and sorrow, health and sickness, success and failure.
The Mission Sisters of Ajmer convinced to be sharers with Christ in His Salvific Mission, accept the call to go wherever needed by the Church to proclaim the Good News of God’s love. They do this through the Ministry of Teaching, Healing, Evangelization and Social Action programs The Sisters are also involved in the Parish Activities, Catechetical Works, Basic Christian Community Programs, Direct Proclamation of the Word, the Family Apostolate and Youth Camps
The Institute has celebrated 111 years of its existence on 26th April 2021. Sister Savina Pinto is the Superior General of the Institute residing in the Mother House at Ajmer. The Institute has two Provinces with their Headquarters, one in Ajmer and the other in Mumbai respectively. There are 54 Religious Houses in the Institute, spread over 12 dioceses of India.
The Mission Sisters of Ajmer manifest the glory of God through a life of love, happiness and cheerful acceptance of God’s will.
